Travel to Tibet
Tibet, on the lofty Tibetan Plateau on the northern side of the Himalayas, is an autonomous region of China. A jewel in the Himalayas is massive, exotic, and culturally under siege. It is also referred as the “Roof of the World” for its jagged peaks of the highest mountains in the world. It shares Mt. Everest with Nepal and the Tibetan people have developed a gentle, mysterious culture in the shadow of Everest. Travellers will discover a country lined with stupas and adorned with fluttering prayer flags. The influence of Tibetan Buddhism is evident all around, from citizens spinning prayer wheels to 1300 year old its capital, Lhasa – the site of hilltop Potala Palace, once the Dalai Lama’s winter home, Jokhang Temple – a holiest destination for all Tibetan pilgrims.
